The winning 2003 pin design was submitted by Sue Rice.

The design consists of a green eyed black cat, sitting in front of a white full moon and holding a magnifying glass in his left paw in front of his left eye, enlarging the eye. The cat is sitting on top of an open book with the script letter DL in gold on white pages; all this on a blue background. A black cat has always been part of the mystery genre (plus many mystery readers are cat lovers too!) The enlarged eye adds a bit of humor...such an important part of many mysteries. Of course we also have our beloved book.
